A sport with three rounds instead of twelve, Pay per views with four to seven fights instead of two, and of course the frequent KO’s and Submissions add to the entertainment. I of course love both sports and respect them in their individual sciences, so it sads me to see how much boxing has lost since Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonner showed the world what a “slug fest” should look like. Boxing has made many attempts to welcome MMA, including merging the two sports for dual MMA and Boxing cards, but the tension between the two sports still exists. Boxings last chance to be the number one source of Fight Entertainment, if it were to happen, may just be a case of the captain going down with the ship.

Pacquiao vs Maywether was suppose to happen this Saturday, March 13th 2010. If it did it would have been the highest gross in PPV money in the History of Any Fight, Period! Unfortunately because of blood testing and other differences between the two the fight was cancelled. Assuming this fight does take place down the line, what then? Does boxing have anything else to offer? What if Pac man steam rolls Floyd, or vice versa, who will want to watch a rematch? This is the last big fight the sport can offer, Mayweather knows this, and Pacquiao knows this, so maybe all this nonsense between blood testing and juicing could all be a ploy to make sure when they do fight that Boxing bows down to MMA with a bang. So until the super fight happens, Boxing is still a hot topic for me, and I wait, watch, and analysis.

5 Things you would have seen on March 13th

1. Mayweather’s Blitzing Speed. There is no one faster; his accurate and precision punching would of cause fits for Pac man. The way he can move around the ring like it’s a play ground is un real, and you would of saw a Floyd Mayweather Jr. at his absolute fastest on this night.
2. Pacquiao’s Determination and Will. Floyd has been able to break fighter by the sixth, and seventh simply by showing his speed can pick up in the later rounds. Manny though thrives in those stages of the fight; he changes nothing, but gives everything. You would have seen a stalking Pac man, pushing the pace, and dictating the action in the later rounds, trying to put Floyds head in the third row.
3. Pacman Crowd. No doubt everyone knows Mayweather will be booed has he is every night he fights, but the Pacman crowd is always rockiest. The question will be who thrives more from the crowd, will Floyd pick up the action from his bad guy role, or will Pacquiao use the chants of “Pac Man” to deliver that Knock Out blow. This place would have been INSANE!
4. Questioning Referee. I know I’m going out on a limp saying that the ref will be a factor but more and more in boxing does the ref have an effect on the outcome of the fight. Taking away unnecessary points, low blow calls, slow counts, fast counts, or late break ups. I have an uncanny feeling about the refereeing in this fight. The biggest fight in the history of boxing is a lot of pressure for a ref, and that usually leads to “Over Refereeing” which is a term in MMA known as “A Mazzagatti”
5. Floyd TKO Round 9. Sorry Pac fans, Mayweather is too fast, too slick, and too much for Pacquiao to deal with. I believe Manny will connect in this fight, and maybe even knock Floyd down, but “Money” owns the later rounds and when Floyd gets faster, and Pacquiao is going to try to push the pace. Inevitably Pacquiao will get caught, and Mayweather will be once again the best fighter Pound for Pound in the world.

The Night Pacquiao and Mayweather fight it will be the most historic night in boxing. The biggest gross revenue, most viewed fasted sell out, and last hurrah. I love the sport, and I loved the athletes it has given us to look up to, and follow in the tabloids. The Fight that will re-write the boxing record books will also be the one to close them.
