MMA Trade Deadline

Last Wednesday I found myself watching four guys sitting around a table talking about trades that are occurring in the National Hockey League…… For six hours! Why? Because trades and change are exciting to me, and because I am an MMA junkie I pondered, what if trades were incorporated in Mixed Martial Arts. Of course this will most likely never happen, but what if organizations could trade fighter’s contracts? If you wonder why a fighter’s contract would be traded, take Dan Henderson as an example. Knowing he had one fight left on his contract the UFC could have traded it to another organization like Strikeforce and gotten someone in return instead of just losing him for nothing. They could have possibly picked up another “big name fighter” or a “prospect” or two.

Possible Dan Henderson Trade ….

NHL trade center is one of the biggest days of the year in the sport. People buy phone apps, txt alerts, take days off work, even watch it on the internet while there at work. Knowing that MMA has been the fastest rising sport in the world in the last ten years is it really that farfetched that trades might not be incorporated into the sport? Instead of waiting for a possible super fight with Fedor in the UFC, Dana White can go out and get it. Offer something to Strikeforce to possibly land the Russian in the Octagon. As the sport grows more and more conflicts begin to surface outside the octagon or ring and you see it so often now that agents and lawyers have to get involved. Fighters aren’t happy with the money they make, the people they are around, the direction there respective company is going in, or the fights they aren’t getting. If trades were put into the sport and some sort of agreement between organizations, like a fighters and managers union was made, none of these outside problems would exist. So whether it is to make a fighter or owner happy, a super fight a reality, or division deeper trades would bring nothing but more excitement for the MMA fan.

Obviously the UFC is the dominating brand, and Strikeforce, Dream, and etc are souly just competition, but if you believe in a candy coated world where everyone someday could possibly get along trades could than exists in MMA. Like all my other stories and articles this is just a thought, a wonder, a dream, and without those what else can a person write about.
