GSP vs WHO?

After the absolute domination of Dan Hardy where he gave us his best impersonation “Stretch Armstrong”, Dan Hardy was left to say “Now I know why he is the Champion”, and the world was left to ask “Who the hell can beat GSP”? With Anderson Silva there are lots of Maybes, MAYBE Vitor can stand with him, MAYBE Maia can submit him, MAYBE Sonnen can out work him, but with St. Pierre there are no maybes, YOU WILL BE PUT ON YOUR BACK, OVER AND OVER. The worst match up on paper for GSP is Jon Fitch and we all saw what happened when they fought. Is Fitch ready for a rematch? Some would say no, he hasn’t finished any of his last fights, but on the other hand, neither has George. There are many possibilities for George but none of them are intriguing, but if I had to guess who is next I’ll give you my top 5 picks for GSP’s next opponent.

My list goes from 5 to 1, from the least chance of happening, to the greatest chance.
GSP VS ……..

5. BJ PENN

With Frankie Edgar next BJ shouldn’t be looking ahead, but GSP vs BJ III is definitely in his future plans. BJ is more determined, training harder, and cleaning out a division just as fast as St. Pierre. Dana has said that if this fight is to happen again BJ will have to fight someone else at 170 first, which also makes me lick my chops at a Penn vs Hughes III or Penn vs Fitch. Even though the second fight was one sided to say the least, the “Greasing”, which did occur, effected what Penn could do to George so a rematch may just be the biggest ticket fight in GSP’s site right now. As much as we all would love to see this happen next for George it is truly doubtful and we are probably not going to see this until 2011.

4. JON FITCH

Even though Dana white didn’t say yes to a rematch at the UFC 111 post fight press conference he also didn’t say no. On paper GSP’s worst matchup is Jon Fitch, great wrestler, a true grinder, huge heart, good chin, Guerrilla Jujitsu black belt, and has an ever growing Muay Thai game. Both guys have said they would love to fight again, and GSP has also said that Fitch was still to this date his “toughest test”. The only problem that a Jon Fitch vs GSP rematch has is that the fans aren’t interested, so neither is Dana white. In my personal opinion should it be next? HELLZ YEAH it should be next but I’m looking at the odds and I would say the Toronto Maple Leafs have a better chance of making the play offs this year then Jon Fitch vs GSP have of fighting next. It will happen, but not right now.

3. Winner of KOSCHECK AND DALEY

Dana had hinted to the winner of this fight being an opposing coach on the ultimate fighter with, yours truly, GSP. Is a Koscheck rematch intriguing? God NO! Josh has a chin as thin as a hotel’s dry wall, but how intriguing is a Paul Daley vs GSP fight? Didn’t we just see the white Paul Daley get mauled by St. Pierre last Saturday? Unfortunately I think this is what Dana white is leaning towards, If Josh Koscheck finishes Daley then Kos gets the next title shot, but if Daley wins I don’t think they will give him the next title shot, souly because we just saw a fighter like Paul Daley get destroyed (Dan Hardy) by the champ. This fight is going to be exciting, but I don’t think it should be a number one contender match, even though from the sounds of Dana White, it just may be.

2. VITOR BELFORT

GSP has bulked up, he has talked about moving to the 85 pound division, but not fighting Anderson Silva right away, find out just where he is in the UFC’s division first. So with Chael Sonnen the next contender for Anderson’s Title, Vitor’s injury may have left him out of a title shot. So why not have Vitor be the “test” for Georges move to 185. HOW FREAKING AWESOME WOULD THAT BE! Can you say BLOCKBUSTER! With the welterweight division searching for a true number one contender this would be a perfect time and opportunity for George to move up and test the waters. It’s clear that Dana has thought about the move up, and could be planning it as you read this right now, and we all know that GSP doesn’t want to fight a C or B level fighter, so Vitor makes perfect sense, specially know …….. You can’t tell me you weren’t thinking it!

1. JAKE SHIELDS

That’s right, I said it! Jake has a very tough fight with Dan Henderson coming just around the corner, and after that he is a free agent. With his role as a coach on the next ultimate fighter, and Dana’s obvious interest in the Jake, if he beats Dan Henderson bring him in as the #1 Contender! Amazing jits, great wrestling, and his Kick Boxing is getting better. He is a 170 pound fighter, and kicking the crap out of fighters at 185! I can smell it already…….. Dana loves him, Fans love him, and the UFC needs Jake Shields. We can try to find a fight for George all over the UFC, but there is really only one fight left at 170 for him, Jake Shields vs GSP, Man I’m good!
George St. Pierre is amazing, unreal, the best! Every division is facing the fact that the champ is just that much better than everyone else, BJ, George, Anderson, Machida, and Brock. So what do we do……. Well you cheer, I’ll write, and those champions I was talking about, just have to continue to improve with their competition. Cause if George takes a day off, maybe that’s the one day that someone like Jon Fitch decided to stay at the gym a little longer than usual.
